Family Pictures Celebration

We had a wonderful time this week reading a story called, Family Pictures which is about a Mexican-American family and their traditions. We learned a lot about different family events they attended and compared them to our own families. We also discussed the genre of realistic fiction. To end our week we enjoyed participating in a cakewalk with Mrs. Hudson's class. We are also looking forward to Juliana, Miguel, and Arturo's parents coming on Monday to share yummy traditional Mexican food with us! We are very lucky to have this wonderful opportunity to learn more about Mexican culture first hand!

We learned that he loves to play football, he enjoys spending time with his family and his dad on the football field, he admires his mom and dad, and he enjoys meeting new friends at school. We are so happy Bryce is a part of our class this year!

2010 National Oreo Project

We have had a blast this week starting our Oreo project. Mrs. HB signed our class up to work on a national project with Oreos. Students from around the United States are competing to see who can stack the most regular Oreos. Karson placed first stacking a total of 23 Oreos, Arturo came in second stacking a total of 22 Oreos, and Juliana and Hannah placed third stacking a total of 21 Oreos.
We had fun counting, skip counting, estimating, measuring, weighing, observing, describing, and more with Oreos this week! Check out our pictures below. We will have many more pictures as our project continues.

Our Third Week in Second Grade

We cannot believe we are already through with our third week in second grade! Time flies when you're having fun and learning at the same time! We had a lot of fun this week learning more about reading comprehension strategies and how we can use the strategies Mrs. H-B taught us to help us become better readers. Mrs. H-B also introduced us to her Quia website that is full of fun games she creates that we can play on the SMARTboard. Mrs. H-B creates games to help us practice skills she taught. We also enjoyed making Grandparent's Day cards for our wonderful grandparents. We are excited about our upcoming week because Mrs. H-B has an exciting project we will be working on using Oreos

The HBees Love Math!

This past week we had fun brushing up on our math skills and playing games to reinforce the skills we reviewed. We played a game called Spin-O that helped us with place value, Magic Zero which helped us review over addition and subtraction math fact families, and Diamond Ten which helped us review over our tens fact family. We enjoyed playing these games with teams and partners.
