Surprise Quilt

Last Friday, I was surprised by my wonderful students with a beautiful handmade quilt. Clayton's mom, Kelly, sewed together squares that the HBees drew for me. The quilt is beautiful and something that I will treasure forever! Each square had something on it that reminded my students of me. They drew bees, ladybugs, books, flowers, animals, USC, football, etc. I loved looking at all of the creativity of my students and what a special way to remember each of them. Thank you so much HBees and Kelly for the beautiful quilt! I love it so much!

Riverbanks Zoo

We were fortunate enough to take 2 field trips this year. We are so thankful for our PHES PTA! They provided us with the funds to take both field trips this year. We enjoyed a fun day at the zoo looking at animals and taking a class about Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. This trip was a great ending to our animal unit of study in class. We recently finished animal research projects and we did our best to find the animals we researched at the zoo. We really enjoyed our trip!

2011 South Carolina Reading Conference

We were invited to attend the S.C. Reading Conference this year to see author Melinda Long. She writes hilarious children's books such as Pirates Don't Do Dirty Diapers. She was a fantastic speaker and we really enjoyed learning about the writing process. We were very appreciative to have a chance to attend this event this year!

Butterfly Release

We have been so busy this spring! After spring break, we were sent 5 caterpillars to put in our live habitat in our classroom. We read lots of books, researched painted lady butterflies and observed our caterpillars daily. After 2 weeks, our 5 caterpillars made chrysalises and turned into 5 beautiful butterflies! We took them outside in our school's garden and let them go. One butterfly just couldn't get enough of our class and stuck around to let everyone take pictures with it. This was an awesome experience and one the HBees will never forget!
