Pumpkin Head Projects
Over the last month, the HBees have been reading many biographies. We have learned a lot about many different famous people! To end our study of biographies, we completed a Pumpkin Head project. The project consisted of the student to write a report about the person they read about and they had to create a pumpkin head figure of the person. They brought them to school to share with our class. They were great! We loved seeing how creative the HBees are and learning more about the wonderful people who have done something in history that changed our lives!

Red Ribbon Week
We are celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week and learning about being drug free. We decorated our door for others to see that we know how to be drug free!

Vote for Me!
With election day coming up next week, we have been learning a lot about the election process. We had fun creating our own political signs for people to look at. We also learned about what makes a good candidate. Check out some of our signs below!

Creating Rain Gauges
We enjoyed making homemade rain gauges in class during our weather unit. These rain gauges were simple to make and fun to use!
All of the materials you need are: 1 2liter bottle (empty and washed out), sharpie, inch ruler, and scissors. Check out our pictures below!

Specialist Book Videos
This week we focused on non-fiction texts and features. We discussed the reason for non-fiction books and talked about how the most important thing we get from non-fiction books is facts. We also discussed that non-fiction books always teach us new things. After spending a few days on studying the non-fiction genre, we created our own books. Each student chose a topic that they felt like they were knowledgable in. They created wonderful "teaching" books and shared them with our class. We were all amazed at how many things were learned today! Check out our videos below!

Mayor Halfacre Visits PHES!
Mayor Halfacre came to visit the second graders at Pleasant Hill Elementary. We were excited that he came to visit us because we were finishing up our communities unit. We learned a lot about our wonderful town, how we can help recycle, and how to become leaders of the future. We appreciate Mayor Halfacre coming to visit our class! The HBees were able to get a little extra special treatment because Mayor Halfacre is Mrs. H-B's dad! :)

Hispanic Family Celebration
This year, our class is very fortunate to have 3 Hispanic families represented. We love hearing stories and learning more about various families represented in our classroom. Arturo, Miguel, and Juliana's moms cooked our class authentic Mexican food. We enjoyed a sampling of tacos, re-fried beans, Mexican rice, and tamales.
Arturo's mom spoke to our class about her experiences in Mexico. We were able to learn a lot of new information about Mexico City and the surrounding areas. We thank Mr. and Mrs. Salinas for speaking to our class!
